The Banshee's Song

He trudged alone through the field of dead plants and earth, never minding the heat. The coarse piece of cloth he had wrapped around his shoulders began to flutter as the wind harshly blew the dried earth, whipping itself towards his cheeks, forcing him to squint. The cape he wore to keep himself warm as he passed the mountains did him no good here, but he still kept it on anyway; he had no intention of leaving any trace behind. After all, he wasn't exactly the good guy in any given situation, always being tracked down by Soul Society's Shinigami; civilized slaves he'd often refer to them as. Long moments before his treading among the barren land he'd rested among the mountainside, gathering resources such as food to help keep up his stamina. He'd done well to keep a pouch of water; emptying the last, he slid the pouch back in between his belt and jeans, feeling a trickle of reiatsu nearby.

His hand tensed slightly on his Zanpakutou, flaring his reiatsu slightly in excitement; frankly, all of this walking bored him, but despite that, he continued to walk on, keeping his guard up.

Inner Realm

The empty trees began to run their branches against each other slightly, the rustling noise muffling the slight growl from underneath the ground. In the center of this dreadful sight was the cross to which a lonesome figure was perched atop of, head down; it seemed as if this character took notice to what lie below the cross. The crows in the distant began cawing ominously.

Zurui's nose remained to the ground as he walked, constantly sniffing at the grassy ground and panting as the earthen scent filled his flaring nares. He tail gave a soft wag as he made his way through the serene landscape. His nose came up from the ground only to blow what pollen had gathered in his sinuses out in a snuffling sneeze that was carried away in a small breeze that fluttered past. As he flared his reiatsu he noticed a faint response pop up and narrowed his eyes on it. Sitting back on his hind legs he let the tag on his collar touch his chest before running his reiatsu through it activating his spirit's ejection from the gigai.

Zurui landed just a foot behind his gigai before the artificial wolf folded in on itself and meshed into a tag on the canid shinigami's squad collar; a black leather strip bearing his squad insignia. Zurui began running towards the only other sign of life in the mountainous region. As he came over the top of a large hill, he saw down into the sun scorched valley his prey walked. His nose again dipped into the wind confirming his suspicions that his target lay ahead. As he walked down into the valley his hand paw drifted to the handle of his sword and he readied himself. This time his opponent's reiatsu had seemed monstrous enough to make the, at time eccentric pup, sober up and plaster a serious look upon his muzzle.

He continued his stride until he felt the reiatsu close in; the irritation he felt urged him to attack, which concluded in his stopping. He took this time to count down from ten, yet the heat wasn't helping. Finally, he threw the piece of cloth to the side, letting it drop with a soft pat, his face turned slightly to spy who was tracking him. He turned around to see a wolf like creature race towards his position; he couldn't tell if this one was insane or obedient, noting that his reiatsu level was pretty high compared to the feral figure. He flared his reiatsu once more, hoping it would divert the stranger's attention and let him be.

Inner Realm

"Preparation...it does no good..."

With those words, Yakubyougami, the spirit of Dark's Zanpakutou, spread his wings and took flight, landing lightly on top of some nearby branches. He muttered a string of words, barely audible to Dark's ears as he reached through the darkness. He came into contact with a dusty surface and pushed; the door opened and he spotted Yakubyougami, spinning his scythe above his head in a helicopter like motion. Swinging down, he planted the tip on the spot he sat; the wind picked up dramatically, sending the crows in fright. The earth grumbled helplessly as it was being torn apart; the fissure spread, meeting Dark's feet and passing to stop at the door he'd just gone through. From the earth's open wound, a blur of motion interrupted the calm air.

"...Hey..."
